Up Norway AS is a travel company based in Oslo that specialises in customised trips in Norway for international clients seeking unique and authentic experiences. The company was established in 2016 with a vision to make Norway the world’s most attractive travel destination for quality-conscious travelers.
Up Norway places great emphasis on sustainability and responsible tourism. In November 2021, they were certified as a B Corporation (B Corp), recognising their social and environmental responsibility. The company has also received international recognition, including being named a Condé Nast Top Travel Specialist and a Travel & Leisure A-List Advisor.
ECIT provides accounting, payroll, and reporting services to Up Norway.
Looking for a dedicated partner
As Up Norway continued to grow, the company recognised the need for a more robust and strategic partner in accounting and payroll. Internal changes at their former accounting provider prompted them to explore new opportunities. Based on previous conversations with ECIT, Up Norway reached out to explore relevant services.
Several factors were important to Up Norway when choosing a new partner.
“We wanted a serious partner who could help us automate processes in the long term, especially to reduce the time spent on handling incoming invoices. We got a good impression of ECIT immediately, thanks to their systems and solid expertise. We also found it reassuring that they are a larger company that actively embraces new technology – which we saw as a positive signal for the future,” says Peder Ornum, CFO at Up Norway.
The fact that ECIT was already working with a similar travel industry client was a clear advantage.
“We knew they had industry knowledge, which allowed them to quickly understand our needs,” Ornum points out.
Mastering routines and communication for peak performance
The partnership has been off to a great start, as the transition from the previous accountant was handled in an organised manner. This smooth process has established a strong foundation for continued collaboration.
“We had a smooth onboarding process, and ECIT quickly took responsibility for transferring and optimising all routines,” says Ornum.
Over time, Up Norway has come to see ECIT as more than just an accounting partner — they’re a strategic partner.
“The most important thing for us is that everything runs seamlessly. We don’t have to spend much time on follow-up because ECIT takes responsibility and knows what needs to be done. They quickly adapted to our routines and helped us establish effective workflows,” says Ornum.
The collaboration is supported by clear, efficient communication that aligns with Up Norway’s way of working. “We don’t have regular meetings, but we always have ongoing contact – especially around period-end closings. We manage to solve common issues via Teams or email,” Ornum explains.
A collaboration that facilitates growth
“We have grown a lot in recent years, and ECIT has managed to keep up with this growth. We truly appreciate that. We have had a reliable team working with us from the beginning, with the same contact person throughout the entire collaboration. The relationship has grown stronger over time, and I would describe the team as both dedicated and committed,” says Ornum.
Although most of the collaboration is digital, it is also an advantage that ECIT has offices nearby. “We rarely meet in person, but since they have offices just outside Oslo, they are easily accessible when needed. I sometimes stop by if I’m on my way to the cabin and drive past their office,” Ornum comments.
Customer Manager at ECIT, Kjerstin Bang-Melchior, expresses that they are also pleased with the collaboration from their side.
“The collaboration with Up Norway has been highly successful. We maintain clear communication with the client and work together to find efficient solutions. At the moment, we are in the process of automating bookkeeping in Tripletex as extensively as possible. In this process, we work closely with Up Norway to determine which suppliers can be fully automated and where we can create streamlined, user-friendly solutions — so that, in practice, the client’s only task is to press ‘post’.”
With a combination of technological expertise and a solution-oriented approach, Up Norway and ECIT look forward to further developing the collaboration in the years to come.
